Our role in the Costa Concordia Salvage operation

After a tragic accident, the Costa Concordia ran aground and lay partially submerged off the coast in Italy for over 18 months. In one of the largest salvage operations in history, which took around 19 hours, the ship was turned upright.

Our AqualLine Open Spelter Sockets No. 140 for 3 ¼” (81 mm) wire rope and AqualLine Closed Spelter Sockets No. 299 for 916” (14 mm) wire rope were used in the parbuckling operation. The ship was rotated upright and towed away without breaking into several parts and posing a risk to the environment. The successful operation was live broadcasted on television.
